Mogra Rescue Centre

  • Mogra Rescue Centre is a Children’s Home and Rescue Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. We cater to orphans, abandoned, homeless, vulnerable and poverty stricken children. The Centre is currently home to over 565 children.

Mogra was established by Reverend Hannah Wairimu to support homeless children from Mogra Star Academy who were at risk of ending up in the streets. Throughout time, there were many children who lost their parents/guardians or were left without adult supervision. Some ended up having nowhere to live and when the rest of the school left in the evening, they spent the night in the classrooms.

  • This prompted management to establish a small housing for such children. This was set up near the school to house these children who had nowhere to call home. From here, the children were fed, clothed and protected so that they could remain in school.

The number of children increased and there was a need to obtain a bigger place to accommodate them. The rooms were expanded and named Mogra Soul Winner Rescue Centre. Mathare was also not very secure for the children. Things got worse during the 2007/2008 post-election violence. The founder chose to move the over 160 vulnerable children and to her house for safety.

  • Her husband donated the land where the home is currently located. With support from her friend and other supporters, Hannah raised funds to build a larger place for the children, where needy children would call home. The children relocated to the current orphanage in Muthaiga North along Kiambu Rd.

Mogra also supports separated, divorced and single mothers through giving them priority of employment at both the school and the Children’s Home.

At Mogra, we care for these precious children as our own. We know that our embrace is the only one some of these children will ever feel.
